Should You Remove That Tree?

While strong, healthy trees are an asset that can increase property values and the enjoyment of your outdoor spaces, there are times when it's necessary to cut down one or more trees to improve the overall safety, health and appearance of your property.

  • 1

The Tree is Dead, Damaged or Diseased

A dead tree is not only an eyesore, but it's also unstable and prone to falling. Diseased trees can quickly spread pathogens to other trees and plants in your yard if not treated promptly or, if necessary, removed entirely. Split, cracked and broken branches can fall unexpectedly, posing a safety hazard to your family and property.

  • 2

    Clean up Storm Damage

Heavy winds, lightning strikes, and even winter weather can lead to damaged or fallen trees. If the tree is too close to your house, the right storm can badly damage the structure of your home. Remove large branches and fallen trees quickly so you can start repairs to your home or yard and get things back to normal.

  • 3

    IMPROVE HEALTH OF SURROUNDING TREES

Tree crowding can stunt growth and promote the spread of rot and disease in otherwise healthy trees. By removing some of the trees in your yard, you’ll allow the remaining trees to flourish and thrive.

  • 4

    INCREASE SUN EXPOSURE

A shady lawn is a great thing to have during the dog days of summer, but too much shade can stifle grass growth and trap moisture. If you’re ready to trade your muddy, patchy lawn for one that’s lush and green, removing one or more of the surrounding trees can help.

  • 5

    Improve Your Home

Tree removal can do wonders for your home, inside and out. Brighten up your home during the day with increased sun exposure, which can also help keep your home warmer during winter months. Overhanging trees can clog your gutters and trap moisture on your roof and siding, leading to mold and mildew, and give small animals and other pests easy access to your attic space.

Many things go into tree removal and there are a lot of moving parts. We need to see the tree to determine, amongst other things, the tree’s:

  • Size
  • Species
  • Health
  • Location
  • Proximity to power lines and utilities, buildings, roads, etc.
  • Surrounding landscape

Once we can see the tree for ourselves, we can determine what kind of equipment is needed, which crew can most efficiently do the job, and more. Based on that, we'll give you a quote to cut down your tree(s).

How We Remove Trees

If there’s enough space, we can simply fell the tree and cut it into sections on the ground.

Usually, a tree has to be removed in segments, especially if it’s close to your house, power lines, or septic tanks. We may cut the tree into sections and lower the pieces safely to the ground using ropes and pulleys to minimize damage to your yard.

Tree Cutting & Removal

Frequently Asked Questions

Tree removal is one of those tasks that some homeowners think they can do themselves or with the help of a few friends. Please don't put yourself at risk! Tree removal is actually one of the most dangerous jobs there is.

To help you understand the tree removal and tree cutting process, take a look at our FAQs. We always encourage people to learn as much as they can before hiring a tree removal company.

Two important questions to ask are:

  • 1

Is the company properly outfitted for the job?

When you pay less for a tree removal job, you may find that you’ve hired someone who isn’t properly trained or doesn’t have the correct equipment. While you may think you are saving money, it will cost you more in the long run if the job is done incorrectly, if someone is injured, or if property is damaged. Reputable tree care companies train their employees thoroughly on proper techniques, safety procedures, and equipment knowledge.

  • 2

Is the company properly insured for the job?

People often assume that a landscaper is just as capable of cutting down a tree as a tree service company. Unfortunately, landscapers often don’t have the correct tools or know-how to safely remove a tree, especially a large tree. And most are only insured for jobs up to 15 feet above the ground – way below the height of most trees.

In most cases, yes, we can remove multiple trees as part of the same job. It depends on how many trees need to be cut down, where they are on your property, the weather that day, the crew availability, and other factors. Removing several trees at once can be preferable as it takes time to set up the equipment, schedule the crews, etc.

Yes, we can! We remove trees year-round (as well as doing a lot of other tree work). In some cases, winter tree work is better for your yard, your trees, and even your wallet!

Stump grinding is a separate service that can be added to your tree removal quote. Be sure to let our estimator know you'd like the stump ground away when they're discussing options with you.

We always do our best to protect your landscape during any type of tree work. For example, we place special mats on the ground to distribute the weight of our heavy equipment so it doesn't sink into the lawn.

Our estimator will discuss potential issues with you during the initial site visit so you understand what might happen.

A tree is cut off at the base. If the tree is growing on your property then we will need to be physically on your property to remove it.

If there are any gates or other obstructions, we'll ask you to unlock and/or remove them before we arrive to cut down your tree.

Much of tree removal is the planning that takes place beforehand. The Lefke Tree Experts crew will take some time planning exactly how to remove the tree and setting up the equipment, which includes stabilizing the crane.

Depending on which crane is being used, as well as the health of the tree, either a climber will climb the tree and work with the crane operator to remove sections of the tree piece by piece, or the grapple saw will remove the tree in sections by a sophisticated remote-controlled system.

In most cases, your homeowners insurance will cover the cost of tree removal if a tree has fallen on a covered structure on your property. Removing a tree for other reasons will generally not be covered by insurance. We recommend that you contact your insurance company directly if you have questions about coverage.

The type and size of the power line in or near your tree will dictate how we approach performing the work. Our skilled tree removal team can often work safely near lower voltage power lines (such as those running to your house) if there's sufficient space. But lines running through a large tree may require a different approach.

One of our Certified Arborists will examine the tree and power lines to determine whether we can safely remove it in the available space, or whether we need to coordinate with the local power company to have power temporarily disconnected.

We clean up all debris, including branches and other tree parts, and remove them from your property.

"Lefke Tree Experts did a great job removing a huge oak tree from our yard. We needed the tree removed to make room for a new house. Our yard is small and there are lots of other houses nearby. Everyone I had out to look at the tree told me it was going to be a problem to remove it but it wasn’t a problem for the team from Lefke! They got the tree removed safely and efficiently and at a very reasonable price compared to some of the other quotes I had received. All the employees are very friendly and professional. It’s a great company and I would definitely use them again in the future."
